In an emotional address amidst rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, the leader of the Lebanese resistance organization, Hassan Nasrallah, issued a relentless condemnation of Israeli attacks and reiterated Hezbollah’s steadfast resistance. Addressing a passionate audience with rhetoric infused with religious fervor and military determination, Nasrallah depicted a bleak portrayal of recent Israeli operations, characterizing them as intentional assaults on civilians and an escalation of a protracted struggle.
Attacking Civilian Infrastructure
Nasrallah commenced by alleging that Israel had transgressed ethical bounds in its recent military operations. In his remarks, he asserted that Israeli soldiers targeted hundreds of pager devices on Tuesday, which he characterized as a blatant assault on Lebanese citizens. Nasrallah stated that the Israeli adversary simultaneously targeted thousands of pager devices, disregarding ethics, morals, or any other values, noting that many individuals utilizing these devices were nurses, doctors, and pharmacists.
In a sharp denunciation, he implored Israel to concentrate its assaults on Hezbollah combatants instead of civilians, labeling the Israeli forces as “cowards” for incorporating non-combatants in the conflict. “If they wish to engage us, they should confront the Hezbollah fighters; do not exhibit cowardice by involving our civilians,” he stated.
Nasrallah asserted that the targeting of pagers and radio channels led to numerous civilian fatalities, including women and children. He claimed that Israeli soldiers were fully cognizant that these pagers and communication gadgets were utilized not only by military personnel but also throughout many civilian sectors. Nasrallah characterized the event as a massacre, alleging that Israel intentionally sought to eliminate up to 4,000 civilians in a singular planned assault, increasing that number to 5,000 when considering operations conducted over two successive days.
Nasrallah characterized this incident as a terrorist act and a massacre, labeling it as yet another atrocity attributed to this abhorrent adversary and malignant entity, reflecting the inflammatory language frequently employed by Hezbollah to depict Israel. He asserted that such activities could be perceived as an act of war, indicating a substantial escalation in the rhetoric of the battle.
A Setback for Hezbollah, Yet Resilience Persists
In his address, Nasrallah recognized the repercussions of the recent Israeli bombings, conceding that Hezbollah had sustained a substantial setback. “He acknowledged that we experienced a significant strike, both in terms of security and humanitarian impact, and that this level of aggression was unprecedented in Lebanon’s history.”
Nasrallah qualified this acknowledgment with a message of perseverance, characterizing the present war as an element of a larger, continuous struggle. “Indeed, we have sustained a significant setback, yet this is the nature of warfare – we have consistently acknowledged that the adversary possesses a technological superiority.” Nasrallah asserted that the fight serves as a measure of endurance and determination, maintaining that despite challenges, Hezbollah’s resistance would intensify in response to the Israeli assault. “Certain days favor us, while others favor our adversaries; the events of this week constituted a significant trial, which we shall surmount with divine assistance and our heads held high,” he declared.
The Hezbollah leader emphasized that regardless of the severity of Israeli strikes, Hezbollah’s resistance would remain steadfast. “Regardless of the intensity or novelty of the assault, the adversary will never subdue us; our resolve will only intensify,” Nasrallah proclaimed, conveying an aura of defiance and unwavering energy.
The Role of Hezbollah in the Broader Conflict
Nasrallah seized the opportunity to respond to complaints from within Lebanon regarding Hezbollah’s lack of significant impact on the battlefield. He refuted these assertions, noting that even Israeli military sources have recognized Hezbollah’s influence. Nasrallah stated, “Although certain individuals speak unfavorably of us, the adversary acknowledges our strategic and tactical successes, recognizing the unprecedented impact we have had on the occupying force.” He characterized the current fight as one of attrition, wherein Hezbollah’s objective is to deplete and undermine the Israeli forces gradually.
Nasrallah significantly connected Hezbollah’s activities in southern Lebanon to the wider Palestinian struggle, especially in Gaza. He stated, “The Lebanese front is a crucial negotiating asset for Hamas in its conflict with Israel,” highlighting the alignment of Hezbollah’s objectives with those of the Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. Nasrallah asserted that for more than 11 months, Israel had been threatening a comprehensive attack to undermine Hezbollah’s support for Gaza; however, he emphasized that Hezbollah would never discontinue its efforts. “Our support for Gaza will be unwavering,” he stated.
Nasrallah’s address contained a direct communication to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who faced close dismissal due to internal dissent on Israel’s war tactics. “We communicate to the adversary, and to Gallant, who was on the verge of dismissal; we shall NEVER cease our conflict against Israel until they terminate their aggression towards Gaza,” he asserted, reaffirming Hezbollah’s dedication to persist in its struggle as long as the Palestinian territories remain besieged.
An Audacious Call for Confrontation
The most controversial aspect of Nasrallah’s address was his taunt aimed at the Israeli military positioned near the Lebanese border. The IDF has indicated a desire to establish a “security zone” in southern Lebanon, presumably to deter Hezbollah fighters from the border. In response, Nasrallah issued what seemed to be a satirical invitation to Israeli soldiers, stating, “We HOPE Israel enters Lebanon; we await their tanks day and night, we say ‘welcome!'”
